That’s Not Mud

Not everyone has seen this hilariously self-unaware ad from the Santorum campaign.

Everyone should.

As Wonkette put it:

So what did Rick Santorum’s campaign come up with, for the new ad complaining about Mitt Romney? Oh, just a life-sized cardboard cutout of a dumbly smiling Santorum repeatedly splashed with a brown, frothy liquid. No, really.

“Obama Punks the GOP on Contraception”

Over at Slate, Amanda Marcotte wagers that Obama’s “compromise” was his plan along, one designed to trick the GOP:

The fun part of this is that Obama just pulled a fast one on Republicans. He drew this out for two weeks, letting Republicans work themselves into a frenzy of anti-contraception rhetoric, all thinly disguised as concern for religious liberty, and then created a compromise that addressed their purported concerns but without actually reducing women’s access to contraception…

Romney was provoked repeatedly to go on the record saying negative things about contraception… I expect to see some ads in the fall showing Romney saying hostile things about contraception and health care reform, with the message that free birth control is going away if he’s elected.

Context Is Everything

Earlier this year, Romney aired an ad where showing Obama saying “if we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose”. Which was, of course, Obama quoting McCain, not Obama confessing weakness on the economy. When pressed about this deceptive ad, Romney’s team offered no apologies, and said the ad was “intentional” and that it “worked”.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney said he is “not concerned about the very poor”. Not long thereafter, as this quote got widely circulated, he followed that up with this:

“No no no no. I — no, no. You’ve got to take the whole sentence, all right, as opposed to saying, and then change it just a little bit, because then it sounds very different,” said Romney.

I say we stick with his original policy. So you heard it, folks: Mitt Romney says he’s not concerned about the very poor. I’m sure that quote was “intentional”.
