This week, Jerry Sanders, Republican mayor of San Diego, changed his mind at the last minute and decided to support a City Council resolution to back marriage equality and overturn California’s ban. He did so, in part, because he did not feel he could tell his daughter, who is a lesbian, that her “relationship… [was] any less meaningful than the relationship I share with my wife.”
