Back in my day™, Sub Pop was the record label for grunge. Loud, angry, scary long-haired guys from the Pacific Northwest screaming about something. I still haven’t gotten used to the label’s changes over the intervening 15 years.
Take, for instance, the delightfully weird Cansei de Ser Sexy, better known as CSS. A bunch of Brazilians, all but one female, singing in English, their genre inexplicable but nowhere near grunge. Try out Alala and see what I mean.
